Lakshmi Ranganathan is one of the foremost Veena artistes of India. She comes from a very well known Royal Court of Travancore musical family of South India with a tradition that extends to six generations. Lakshmi's musical talent was nurtured by her father Kalyanakrishna Bhagavathar, who himself was a musical genius.

At the age of fifteen, Lakshmi Ranganathan won the coveted President of India award for the Veena and since she holds numerous titles and acclaim in different parts of the world. She has performed and lectured in Music in South and South-East Asia, Australia, various European countries, UK, USA and Canada. Among her more important engagements, she has performed at the United Nations, Carnegie Hall, Stratford Festival, Royal Ontario Museum, W.O.M.A.D., Expos, Olympics, British Broadcasting Corporation, Canadian Broadcasting Corp., Australian Broadcasting Corp., Public Broadcasting Corp., USA, All India Radio and Television, Singapore and Malaysian Radio and TV, Radio Ceylon, France, Durham Music Festival, Commonwealth Institute, Oxford University, and other many reputed Universities. Among many awards, Lakshmi has received the prestigious Government of India Cultural Scholarship. She is in the Faculty of Music at Queen's University and University of Western, teaching World Music.

While Lakshmi Ranganathan resides in Canada, she went to India, produced and released three cassette albums, which are in great demand. Lakshmi Ranganathan received a grant from the Canada Council to produce her "Veena" music on a compact disc which was produced and released by the School of Music label, Queen's University, Kingston.

Lakshmi Ranganathan is one of the very few female Veena artistes with such a high profile and great accomplishment in the field of male dominated profession in India and in North America.
